Exclusive visits to the National Museum of Qatar begin
The most looked forward to museum in Qatar, the spanking new National Museum of Qatar, opened doors with its first exclusive tours yesterday.
The tours that began yesterday were for Qatari citizens with the first group consisting of 20 citizens. In fact, Qatar National Museum’s invitation to visit the museum that was circulated in social media two weeks ago, was received with enthusiasm among the citizens of the country.
This led to around 500 citizens and college students in total registering for the exclusive tour programme.
According to QNA, the tours will continue over the coming weeks until May according to a flexible schedule where the participants will visit the museum and explore the exterior and interior design made by Jean Nouvel and inspired by the desert rose.
The 430,000 sq ft museum doesn’t only consist of a unique design of interlocking discs, but it is also built around Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al-Thani’s original palace -- his family home and seat of the government for 25 years.
The museum is expected to be a thriving hub for the public, students, and museum professionals. Apart from galleries, it also provides a 220-seat auditorium, two retail outlets, two restaurants and a cafe, a dedicated food forum preserving culinary traditions, a research centre, laboratories and a park filled with indigenous plants.
I got an email from Qatar Museums, inviting Culture Pass members to apply for a museum tour. Its free to join Culture Pass, so I recommend everyone interested sign up...
