AFC’s Disciplinary and Ethics committee throws out UAE’s complaint against Qatar
A last-ditch attempt by the UAE to try and block Qatar’s final appearance against Japan has crashed and burned spectacularly.
The UAE, after they were thrashed 4-0 in the semifinal at home by a marauding Qatar team, registered a formal complaint saying two Qatari players — 22-year-old Almoez Ali and 21-year-old Bassam Al Rawi — were ineligible to represent the nation.
The UAE hoped that Qatar would get disqualified and they could replace them in the final against Japan. However, those hopes have now been dashed.

In a short and crisp Press release, the AFC discarded the UAE’s protests, and the final will go on as planned.
“The Asian Football Confederation’s Disciplinary and Ethics Committee on Friday dismissed the protest lodged by the United Arab Emirates Football Association over the eligibility of two Qatar players,” it said in a stark statement on its official website.
This is likely to provide further embarrassment for hosts UAE, who had gone to extraordinary lengths to ensure that very few Qatari fans were in attendance throughout the tournament.
The final between Qatar and Japan will kick off at 5 pm Doha time.
