Authorities nab motorist who ran over a 9-year-old child and fled the scene
A motorist, who fatally ran over a nine-year-old child and then fled the scene, was apprehended by police officers, said officials at the Ministry of Interior (MoI), according to Gulf Times.
The General Directorate of Traffic tracked down the motorist, arrested him and referred him to competent authorities for legal action.
Security services had earlier received a report about the accident, in which a pedestrian was hit in the Muraikh area on a road heading east. The report had said that the condition of the victim was critical.
Traffic patrols and an ambulance were immediately rushed to the spot to investigate the accident and rescue the injured. On reaching the accident site, the personnel found the victim to be a nine-year-old child, who had died on the spot.
The security officers began asking those present at the spot about the circumstances of the accident and the motorist involved. They, however, did not get clear answers about the driver who had escaped.
They then reviewed footage from a surveillance camera installed in a residential complex overlooking the road where the accident occurred. An eyewitness was also able to identify the car that hit the child from the CCTV footage.
The motorist was tracked down and, on being confronted with witness testimonies and camera recordings, confessed to the authorities that he had caused the accident.
