The Ministry of Interior (MoI) yesterday released a braille handbook of traffic signs at Noor Institute for the Blind.

The booklet was designed jointly by Community Policing Department, General Directorate of Traffic and the National Committee for Traffic Safety in association with Noor Institute for the Blind. The launching ceremony was attended by Brig Muhammad Abdullah Al Maiki, Secretary of National Committee for Traffic Safety, Ft Lt Ahmad Zayed Al Mohannadi, Director of Community Policing Department, Ft LT Muhammad Radhi al Hajiri, Director of Traffic Awareness and Information Department, Dr Noora Al Kubaisi, Director of Noor Institute and Khalid Saeed Al Shoaibi, Director of Public Relations and Community Service Department at the Institute.

Brig Muhammad Abdullah al Maliki lauded the efforts of Community Policing and Traffic Awareness Department that helped for the creation of the handbook which would be helpful for the blind people to learn traffic rules.

He added that the booklet would remain useful to spread the knowledge of traffic culture in all Arab countries. Dr Al Kubaisi appreciated the MoI for its concern for the blind.

The traffic department should first focus on teaching people who can actually see what the road signs mean.

It's very important that the blind drivers at least know the traffic signs. So God will, they are going to obey them, too.
