Complaints about laborers in residential areas
Some residents of Umm Salal have urged the authorities to deal with the issue of houses in residential neighbourhoods being used as accommodation for labourers by companies.
Pointing out that hundreds of such workers are living in houses in the area, the residents say there is lack of monitoring and many residents are keen to lease their old houses to companies that pay high rents, thereby aggravating the problem, the report states.
Meanwhile, some residents have referred to the use of houses in the area as stores for food materials while others are turned into workshops for repairing cars and trucks.
Gulf Times reports that the houses also contain large amounts of waste at times, they allege.
Due to these issues, say the residents, many families are considering shifting from the area despite having lived there for years. [Gulf Times]

Government has to look in to this issue seriously as there were many issues around Family areas in the near past. This is serious issue by all means. Particularly EZDAN has to enforce this vigorously.

I like the zoo and quarantine suggestion, mac. Five years ago my wife used to be able to walk down the road without getting harassed; now, no chance. Now she just drives everywhere and has a score card with her - 5 points each.

Honestly, this kind of news makes me frustrated, angry, and disappointed, gulf times are stupid for publishing such closed-minded - narrow view material instead of making some real comprehensive reportage about the reasons and solutions for such situations... the freedom of expression space in Qatar is wider than most of people think and they must use it...
hmmm... and where should the labors live if not in residential areas? the zoo? may be we should put them all in a quarantine so they dont hurt the sensitive eyes of residents !
why the society considers laborers as potential life threatening hazards?
