Court of Appeal upholds jail term and fine for two men caught peddling drugs
Qatar has always maintained a no-nonsense attitude towards criminals and drug peddlers, and that has helped the country become one of the safest on earth.
Qatar’s Court of Appeals recently upheld the verdict of the Criminal Court to sentence two Asian men to five years in jail and impose on them a fine of QR200,000 after they were caught selling illicit drugs, reported Gulf Times.
The court also ordered their deportation after serving the prison sentence.
The matter came to light after police officers were tipped off about an Asian expatriate selling marijuana. An undercover policeman approached him and was given a sum of QR9,000 by the department to ‘buy’ a certain quantity of the contraband from the suspect.
Then, at the stipulated time and place, one of the two Asian men met the undercover officer and took him to a place where the drugs were hidden. His accomplice also joined them.
When the two men took out the drugs from a hole and delivered it to the policeman after receiving the agreed sum, police patrols arrested the culprits red-handed. Legal procedures were then initiated against them.
