A Doha Criminal Court has fined a motorist QR3,000 for reckless driving and ordered the withdrawal of his licence for a month, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported on Tuesday.

The court also fined a friend of the accused QR5,000 for giving a false testimony.

The main accused had driven his friend's vehicle recklessly and crashed into two parked vehicles, damaging them. He then called his friend, the owner of the vehicle, to help him.

The owner told the investigators that he was driving the car at the time of the accident to protect his friend.

However, he admitted the truth as the investigation progressed. Accordingly, the court convicted both persons.  [Gulf Times]

Perdian: Lets be grown up in the way we discuss things...no need to go dissing countries to make your point...besides, if you are where i think you are from, you hardly have the high ground to go after other countries' driving cultures...back to the topic; there are many examples i could give you where a responsible driver doing safe speeds could hit parked cars...your view about licences being revoked is valid only for reckless drivers and absolutely not for people hitting parked cars...if you can appreciate that POV, well and good...if not, until next time...

I have seen it in Saudi. A guy driving fast tried to do a handbrake turn and took out a couple of parked cars.

A car driven recklessly is a weapon and can do a lot of damage

Crashing into parked cars can happen to absolutely anyone, not just reckless drivers...are you saying if you were to hit parked cars, your licence should be revoked too?

Well done to local investigator and court. The main accused should be punished more. 3000 is not enough. one month licence suspension is not enough. 6 month atleast.
