CPD crackdown on stationery and sports stores
Government inspectors have caught at least 11 stationery and sports garment stores for selling counterfeit items, not displaying product prices and overcharging.
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce said some of the erring outlets have been fined while others have been issued stern warning.
In a press statement issued yesterday, the Ministry has urged parents and students not to buy costlier stationery items.
The Ministry has also said that people should buy back-to-school supplies in quantities that they actually need and avoid wasteful expenditure.
The Ministry boasts Consumer Protection Department (CPD) whose inspectors launched raids on at least 750 back-to-school supply shops and sports garment outlets.
The raids were conducted in the past few weeks during the run-up to the reopening of the schools after the long summer break, the Ministry statement said.
The schools reopen today, and among the shops that have been inspected were also those providing photocopying services, according to the Ministry statement.
The Ministry has urged people to contact it if they have any complaints on its toll free number (8005000) or on its hotline 44945550.
Most of these stationary shops are selling only fake items (brands ) in Qatar for almost half the price. anyway customers are still buying and happy :)
Name and shame these outlets. I don't want to shop there.
