Driving perception on Qatar’s roads improve, but tailgating still an issue
Have people’s perception of driving on Qatari roads improved in recent times? If the results of a recent survey are any indication, then that seems to be the case.
The results of a survey by the Qatar Road Safety Monitor shows that people were happy with improved road infrastructure, lesser commute time and more driving enjoyment.
They also felt that threre were noticeable improvements in areas like dangerous driving, speeding, lane swerving and distracted driving. However, tailgating continued to be a cause for concern.
The bi-annual study, which was commissioned by QIC Insured, was carried out over a six-month period.
Almost 68% of respondents felt road infrastructure had improved over the last six months, leading to shorter commute time (67%) and more driving enjoyment (38%).
The incidence of dangerous driving reduced from 62% to 57%. There were marginal improvements in the trend for distracted driving (85%) and speeding on the roads (74%).
While the trend for abrupt changing of lanes seems to have dropped to 70%, perception trend for tailgating appears unchanged over the last six months (76%).
I hate tailgaters...
There is also a need to record and publish the hot spots/roads with fatal accidents record.
Then there should also be a public debate on how to find viable solution for it.
"There were marginal improvements in the trend for distracted driving (85%) " - what exactly is Distracted Driving ?
