Employers told to forward overtime payments of workers to bank accounts

The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (MLSA) confirmed that according to the Wage Protection System (WPS), the employers will now have to forward all the allowances and overtime payments of their workers to their respective bank accounts.

The local daily Al-Sharq reported that according to MLSA, all the allowances of a worker other than his monthly wage could be totaled together and put under the extra wages category.

“These include overtime, leave salary, and others. The same applies for deductions during the same month. However, end of service benefits (gratuity) and settlement are currently not part of WPS as it only targets monthly payment and related things such as payment for leave period”, reported the daily.

Also, when an employee is paid in advance for his leave period, then the number of working days should be recorded as zero as dropping out the name of the employee from the pay roll may signify that he was terminated.

In case an employee is paid part of his salary as an advance or loan by the employer, the deducted amount of the next month salary should be registered as so.

The WPS is a comprehensive electronic system initiated by Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and QCB to monitor and document the process of worker wage payment, subject to Labour Law No (14) of 2004.

It aims to ensure that employers are committed to the wage payment process systematically and in a timely manner pursuant to the rules provided for in the Labour Law.[Gulf Times]

very easy to say,but many companies find it difficult to comply to such laws, even in your company if it happens to you that all the allowance and benefit they refused to give you,if you complain to labor, they will keep posting ,and you know the nature of work in qatar everybody is busy, and when you are free ministry will not be on duty.things are really difficult when you have challenges like this.you dont have anybody to listen to you.
