Expat jailed for sharing a woman's photo on social media
A Doha criminal court has sentenced an expatriate to two years in jail for taking a woman's picture from her Facebook account and posting it on an account created by him.
The man has also been directed to pay a fine of QR30,000, local Arabic daily Al Sharq has reported.
The matter came to light when one of the woman's friends came across her photograph on a stranger's account.
He contacted the defendant. However, it soon led to an argument and the two started exchanging insults and accusations, according to the daily.
The defendant was attempting to start a relationship with the woman, it was found.
The court convicted the defendant of violating the privacy of the woman and misusing her private information.
It also ordered the confiscation of all the electronic equipment used in the case.
The court, though, dropped charges pertaining to insults based on a request from all the parties involved. [Gulf Times]
Need to be careful what you do on the internets these days. Especially in Qatar. Seems like they have a good balance here.
Agree with you WT.
first of all dont expose yourself in public, if you have that much craze than make it limited only to your circle. i seen people sharing there every private thing, daily kids activities, personal gifts they receive, money they have, place they live, food they eat, clothes they like, almost everything. which is very dangerous !
If someone posts a picture on Facebook as "public" anybody can copy it and do with it what he wants. If you don't want that to happen, make the picture accessible for "friends only". People are definitely too careless and should be punished for that, too.
Serves him right. It also highlights the dangers of posting "personal" pictures on social media
