Fans in for experience of a lifetime at refurbished Khalifa Int. Stadium
It was only a few days ago that the redeveloped Khalifa International Stadium was declared as complete.
Football world body FIFA, on its website said that the stadium will be inaugurated just before the Emir’s Cup final clash between between traditional rivals Al Rayyan and Al Sadd on Friday.
The Khalifa International Stadium, the first proposed host venue for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, is now ready more than five years ahead of the tournament kicks off.
Meanwhile, fans who attend the final are in for an unforgettable experience, officials have promised.
Khalifa International Stadium project manager Mohamed Elamin Abdullah Ahmed said the lighting system installed at the stadium is one of the best in the world.
“This lighting system is a world-class design feature, allowing visually stunning light shows to be created inside and outside the stadium. There aren’t many stadiums in the world with such a facility. The roof lighting system is capable of showcasing a variety of colours,” he told Gulf Times.
The new stadium has an additional seating stand on the eastern part, innovative cooling technology to keep spectators and players comfortable throughout the match, and a sports museum within the venue.
The entire spectator area is now covered by a roof and features an intricate net of German and Italian-made steel tension cables.
Qatar Tribune reported that the new stadium would also prove to be a boon for fans who work in the corporate sector. The beautiful corporate box area has three layers and a perfect view of the magnificent pitch. Corporate bodies are expected to take advantage of the prime and vantage position for their staffs.
Originally constructed in 1976, the Khalifa International Stadium has hosted the Gulf Cup on two occasions, as well as the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 1995, the 2006 Doha Asian Games, the 2011 AFC Asian Cup final and international friendly matches.
