FIFA President completely rules out any revote on 2022 Qatar World Cup
FIFA president Gianni Infantino has completely ruled out any revote for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He also took a dig at those who can’t seem to stop criticising Qatar and Russia.
“It’s easy to paint with a dark paint everything that comes from the East, from Russia, the Arab world because we’re the best ones, we know how to run countries...we know how democracy works,” he said, according to Gulf Times.
The FIFA president reiterated that there was no need for a return to the vote for Qatar to host the 2022 World Cup.
Ahead of the draw for the 2018 World Cup in Russia on Friday, Infantino said FIFA had now changed governance and the ruling body had learned from the past.
“Suspicions (around World Cup host city votes) cannot surface any more because we’ll put in the mechanisms which make sure it doesn't happen,” Infantino said, according to Qatar Tribune.
Recently, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy Secretary General Hassan Al Thawadi had said he was confident in the ‘integrity’ of Qatar’s bid.
“It’s all hearsay and there’s no evidence,” Thawadi said.
Last week, Qatar unveiled the design of Ras Abu Aboud Stadium, the seventh Qatar 2022 stadium, featuring a bold and innovative concept unique to any World Cup stadium ever made.
