Fines imposed on defendants of the Aqua Park drowning case
A Doha Criminal Court has imposed fines on several defendants in the Aqua Park drowning case.
May 4th was a Friday and the country was abuzz with weekend plans. Aqua Park which is one of the most frequented attractions in Qatar, is an amusement park filled with a variety of water sports that was opened to the public in 2010.
According to Doha News, since its opening many had raised a question regarding its safety, especially after a 11 year old boy fell from one of the attractions, breaking a rib and injuring a kidney.
Not long after, a young Palestinian boy supposedly to be aged between six and eight years old, had drowned in one of the park’s pools.
Now, Gulf Times reports that according to the Arabic daily Arrayah, the court has fined a lifeguard and a supervisor QR1,000 each, while the operations manager was fined QR 3,000.
Besides, two companies concerned with recreational activities at the park were fined QR10,000 each.
Further, four defendants were found guilty of negligence, which caused the death of the child by drowning, and the court ordered them to pay the kin of the victim a sum of QR200,000 as blood money, with each paying a portion based on the extent of negligence.
However, the court acquitted a paramedic of any negligence in the case.
Since the drowning of the Palestinian boy, there had been no incident reported in the Aqua Park.
