First COVID-19 vaccine shipment to reach Qatar on December 21
Qatar has spared no effort in tackling the COVID-19 crisis to the best of its abilities.
Since the onset of COVID-19, the country has dedicated efforts to ensure the highest standards of monitoring, detection, and management of the infection, keeping the health and wellbeing of the population as a top priority.
In October, The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) confirmed that it had been in talks with several pharmaceutical companies to secure the vaccine and had already signed an agreement with Pfizer-BioNTech to supply Qatar with their BNT162 mRNA-based candidate vaccine against SARS-CoV-2.
The Ministry also announced later that it had signed another agreement with US-based Moderna, a Massachusetts-based biotech company.
Following this announcement, a top official from the Ministry stated that the first batch of an approved COVID-19 vaccine is expected to be available in Qatar by the end of this year.
Now, another official from the Ministry has said that the first shipment of COVID-19 vaccine will reach Qatar on December 21, 2020.
The Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H.E. Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani said in his tweet that vaccines will be provided to all according to health protocols.
The tweet says:
“Under the directives of His Highness the Amir, the first shipment of Covid 19 vaccine will arrive the day after tomorrow, and I have directed the health sector to provide it to everyone according to health protocols. This is an important step on the road to containing the pandemic and gradually returning life to normal and express our pride in the success of our plan to confront the disease, we renew our thanks to our medical teams and all those involved in it.”
