First electric tractors assembled in Qatar tested
Qatar’s Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) has maintained a strong focus on using the latest technologies in the field of transport that advance environmental sustainability.
In a statement, the Ministry announced that the first advanced electric tractors (APM 75T HE), fully assembled in Qatar in Ras Bufontas Free Zone have been delivered to QTerminals.
These highly advanced electric vehicles will be used to transport containers at Hamad Port.
His Excellency the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti underlined that these tractors complement the MoTC’s Electric Vehicles Strategy, which endeavors to achieve a greener future for Qatar.

The Minister also mentioned that the assembling of these electric tractors supports the Ministry’s “plans for enhancing the localization of industry, expertise and the technology in use globally, in addition to localizing the actual operational processes for mobility, transportation and communications projects in such a way that enriches the investment mentality of national companies to achieve the Qatar National Vision 2030.”
Some 22 advanced electric tractors are being utilized at Hamad Port’s Container Terminal 2, the Ministry statement adds.
These e-vehicles have several advantages such as: the capability to function very efficiently in high temperatures. They have low maintenance costs and are easy to drive with a high level of safety. They are eco-friendly and energy-efficient.
In addition to these, there is no pollution, carbon emissions or noise with the use of these tractors.
In terms of costs, the Ministry states that each “tractor will save nearly 45.5 thousand Qatari riyals a year versus the diesel-powered tractors.”
“One kilowatt per hour costs 0.32 Qatari riyals in electric tractors compared to 2.32 Qatari riyals in diesel-powered ones,” the statement adds.
Earlier this year, MoTC had also announced that 25 percent of public transport buses in Qatar will be electric by 2022.
