A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced a GCC national to more than seven years in jail and imposed a fine of QR3,000 for setting fire to his vehicle while intoxicated.

According to Gulf Times, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that the Public Prosecution referred the defendant to the court accusing him of intentionally setting fire to his vehicle parked on the street, putting the lives of others at risk, besides being intoxicated.

According to the charge sheet, the defendant drank a substantial amount of alcohol and wine before becoming highly intoxicated and he hired a private taxi.

He went to a fuel station and bought some petrol and went back to the place where his vehicle was parked.

He poured petrol on the car and set it on fire, until it was completely burnt out. The incident took place in the Al Shammal area.

During interrogations, the defendant claimed he was suffering from psychiatric troubles and was still under treatment.

However, the official psychiatric report about his case affirmed that his condition was stable and he was a frequent abuser of alcohol. The report also stressed that he was aware of his actions and can be accountable for it.

whiteleyp: By burying your head in the sand, you just cannot avoid the truth and realities of life. Show me just one place that states that alcohol does not intoxicate. Alcohol effects the brain's communication system and the way the brain works. The disruptions change mood and behaviour and makes it harder to think clearly and move with coordination. The persons action was a direct result of drinking, whether you accept it or not.

well said Khan.... Alcohol is Satan's handiwork ... never brings good to society or individuals...

Excessive alcohol use is a leading cause of preventable death. This dangerous behavior accounted for approximately 88,000 deaths per year from 2006–2010, and accounted for 1 in 10 deaths among working-age adults aged 20–64 years.

KHAN.

Now atleast he understand why God has prohibited alcohol. When you are intoxicated you dont know what action you can do. Be obedient to God and you will prosper in this world and the eternal world that is to begin from your date of Death.
