Heartbreak for Japan as Belgium beat them in the last minute to progress to quarters

Japan were 21 minutes away from their greatest win in history, but Belgium once again proved why they are considered one of the frontrunners to win the World Cup in Russia by coming back from a 0-2 deficit to triumph 3-2.

Substitute Nacer Chadli was the real hero as he scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time to complete Belgium’s return from the brink and set a quarterfinal date with Brazil.

Chadli broke Japanese hearts when he completed a move on the break, with all five goals coming in the second half of an enthralling match in the Rostov Arena on Tuesday,

Two goals in four minutes shortly after the break by Genki Haraguchi (48th minute) and Takashi Inui (54th) put Japan ahead, but headers from Jan Vertonghen (69th) and substitute Marouane Fellaini (74th) levelled the score.
