HH the Amir attaches great importance to health sector, says Minister
Qatar’s health system, which has been ranked as the best in the region, is continually being developed to offer high-quality services.
The strength and effectiveness of the system are seen in today's unprecedented times, as the country deals with the COVID-19 challenge.
Qatar's leadership together with competent authorities has played a tremendous role in bolstering the health sector and ensuring the healthcare needs of the population are met efficiently.
In a meeting with a group of cadres of intensive care units (ICUs) affiliated with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) yesterday, Her Excellency Qatar's Minister of Public Health affirmed that His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani attaches great importance to the health sector.
The wonderful results achieved in this sector is a direct result of HH the Amir's wise vision of investing in healthcare, she added.
She further said that the provision of sufficient clinical capacity at ICUs and high-quality treatment services, provided to patients in Qatar, are essential elements of Qatar's ability to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite the high infection rate, Qatar has achieved the second lowest death rate for COVID-19 in the world, HE the Minister pointed out.
HE Dr Al Kuwari said that all components of the health system have combined efforts to ensure the best services to patients amid the current pandemic.
Efforts were made to facilitate access to healthcare services and expand the capacity of intensive care units to ensure timely treatment for all patients.
Qatar's world-class health system enabled the expansion and use of existing resources and facilities promptly when needed. Accordingly, 3,500 hospital beds and 700 beds in intensive care units were provided for patients with COVID-19, HE the Minister highlighted.
She underlined that the death rate among COVID-19 patients at ICUs in Qatar was about 9 percent, while the death rate at ICUs in several developed countries stood at 35 percent.
HE the Minister appreciated the efforts and contributions of the ICU teams that have made sure the most advanced and top-quality medical treatments and protocols are followed to manage patients in Qatar.
Earlier, in June, HH the Amir praised the roles of COVID-19 frontline healthcare workers, medical staff and other affiliated teams who have saved the lives of many people infected with the virus, calling them the "champions of these times".
For any queries, or concerns related to COVID-19 in Qatar, the public can contact a 24/7 hotline set up by the Ministry. The hotline number is 16000 and is toll-free.
Here's everything you need to know about the virus, including ways to protect yourself.
