HH the Amir to attend GCC Summit in Saudi Arabia today
Yesterday marked a significant step toward the resolution of the Gulf crisis, as the air, land, and sea borders between Qatar and Saudi Arabia were opened for the first time since the illegal blockade was imposed on Qatar.
The breakthrough announcement regarding the reopening of the Qatar-Saudi borders was made by the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah.
“Based on [Kuwait’s ruler Amir] Sheikh Nawaf’s proposal, it was agreed to open the airspace and land and sea borders between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar, starting from this evening,” the minister announced on state TV last night, Al Jazeera reported.
The opening of the borders, which came on the eve of the GCC Summit set to take place in Saudi Arabia, indicates there may be more positive outcomes as the leaders of the Gulf states convene today.
Qatar's Amiri Diwan confirmed that His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will lead the country's delegation participating in the 41st session of the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC).

Gulf unity and stability is at the top of the summit today, it has been stressed earlier.
According to Al Jazeera, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said the GCC summit will be “inclusive”, leading the states toward “reunification and solidarity in facing the challenges of our region."
In a tweet, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash said, “We stand before a historic summit in Al-Ula, through which we restore our Gulf cohesion and ensure that security, stability and prosperity is our top priority. We have more work ahead and we are headed in the right direction.”
GCC Secretary-General welcomed the opening of airspace, land and sea borders between the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, adding that the move reflects the commitment and sincere efforts being made to ensure the success of the summit. #QNA

The Gulf crisis that began in June 2017, saw the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Bahrain, severe all ties with Qatar, including diplomatic and trade ties.
Over these years, Qatar has consistently stressed the need for dialogue and called for negotiations to end the illegal blockade.
Although there were some signs of a possible diffusion of the Gulf crisis last year, no concrete solution was achieved earlier.
