Kenya’s Cristopher Oketch emerge as the strongest expatriate in Qatar
Kenya’s Cristopher Oketch emerged as the strongest expatriate during the ‘Qatar’s Strongest Man’ (QSM) competition, organised. By Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF), at the Aspire Park yesterday.
His compatriot Joseph Iroo Ekadeli and Egyptian contestant Mohamed Dweidar finished second and third respectively in the competition, which was in its fifth edition, reported Gulf Times.
Kenyan Ambassador to Qatar HE Galma Mukhe Boru was also present during the competitions, reported Qatar Tribune.
Eight Qatari nationals, including defending two-time champion Fahad Al Haddad, are set to compete on Saturday evening, from 4pm.
More than 1,500 spectators gathered together to watch the exciting competition.
“The 2016 edition generated incredible feedback, and the surge of QSM’s popularity has encouraged AZF to take the competition to a higher level, thus, extending the challenge over two days,” QSM organising committee chairman Ibrahim Al Hilal said.
Building on the competition’s success over the past years, AZF has decided to increase the number of competitors from 14 to 16 this year. Contestants went through a series of challenges like truck pull, sand bag lift, giant tyre lift, farmer walk, and car lift or Conan’s Wheel.
Winners of the Qatari and expatriate categories will take home a Nissan car from Saleh Al Hamad Al Mana Co.. The second and third place winners in each category will receive QR20,000 and QR10,000 cash respectively.
