Man gets three-year jail term for presenting fake cheque worth QR1.7m
While Qatar is a comparatively crime-free nation, financial frauds are often reported. Usually, when that happens, authorities take stringent measures against the guilty.
Recently, Qatar’s Misdemeanour Court sentenced a man to three years in prison for presenting a fake cheque worth QR1,767,000, reported The Peninsula.
The newspaper reported that the man had issued the cheque despite knowing very well that he did not have enough money in his account to honour it. Thus the man was accused of giving the cheque in bad intention.
The Court was convinced since it bears the defendant’s signature, yet the money was not in the account by due date, according to the bank’s data.
It was only recently that a man was sentenced to three years in prison for forging the signatures on 33 visa applications.
