Man jailed to one year in prison, in absentia, for cheating Arab expat of QR200,000
Qatar has always taken strong exception to all sorts of crime in the country. Strict implementation of the rule of law is one of the reasons Qatar is considered among the safest countries on the planet.
Qatar’s no-nonsense attitude was once again evident last week when a misdemeanor court in Doha sentenced a man in absentia to one year in jail for fraudulently seizing QR200,000 from an Arab expatriate, reported Gulf Times.
The sentenced man, who claimed to be an education center's key partner, received money from the Arab expatriate after promising him a share in it. They also signed a contract that was stamped with the center’s seal.
But when the victim tried to claim his rightful share, the convict started to evade him. Only when the cheated man went to the educational centre did they say the convict had no relation to them and that he was not authorised to do business transactions on their behalf.
Subsequently, the victim took to the court.
