Man jailed for six months and fined QR5,000 for spying on a woman using cameras
A court in Qatar sentenced a man to six months in jail and gave him a QR5,000 fine for infringing on the privacy of a woman, by placing a surveillance camera to monitor her movements.
The prosecution charged him for violating the privacy of the victim without her consent, reported The Peninsula.
The accused had set up surveillance cameras in his house pointing to the victim’s house, who is a relative, to monitor her movements.
According to article 333 of the Penal Code, anyone who commits infringement of private life of individuals, records or transports pictures of individuals in a private place by means of a device of any kind, shall be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year and to a fine not exceeding QR5,000.
It criminalizes any activity that leads to access to the private life of the victim without his or her consent.
On top of the fine and jail term, the cameras were removed at the accused’s own expense.
Ata, What if the guy just recorded it in his diary with date / time / place etc ? Will he get punished or not ?
Ata, You are right at your place. Road Phone users must be deported within 3 days of the offence. With Life time ban on the culprit.
one of my very few complaints about Qatar is the seemingly lax penalties for certain crimes/violations while others are unnecessarily harsh; running a red light is 6000 which is great but using a cell phone while driving is hardly a problem and with only a minimal penalty; i feel the cell phone users are the single most dangerous group of drivers on our roads, i see them causing accidents, causing others to have accidents or narrowly avoiding one by allah's mercy every single day and i hate them with all my heart and i feel they should be fined MUCH MUCH MORE than 6000 and it should be the biggest traffic violation of all. similarly, this man was violating the privacy of the lady in a most unacceptable manner and he only gets 5000 rials and 6 months? 50000 and one year would be more like it... he wouldn't even point a camera at himself after that...
