Man sentenced to five years in jail for conducting series of ATM thefts
Every day, you meet new fraudsters who come up with new ways to steal your hard-earned money.
Qatar’s criminal court recently sentenced a man to five years in prison for committing a series of thefts after taking advantage of people’s lack of knowledge in using ATM cards, reported The Peninsula.
The man, who used to defraud poor labourers who did not know how to use their ATM cards, will be deported after serving his sentence.
The conman’s modus operandi was simple. He would hang around ATM machines and offer to help people who did not know how to operate their debit cards. He would get their PIN number, put a different card in and say it was not working. He would then return the fraudulent card to the user and ask them to report it to their bank.
As soon as the victim moves away, he would use the original card to withdraw money from the account.
He was caught after some of his victims reached out to the police with a description of the robber. The police checked the video grans from ATM machines and nabbed the culprit.
The Public Prosecution has charged the accused for fraudulently withdrawing money using stolen cards.
ALLAHUAQBAR
