Manchester United talent scout ends up in wrong continent in search of football game
We have all been there and done that when it comes to accidentally losing our way and ending up at the wrong destination.
But a talent scout from English football club Manchester United took it to an entirely different level when he went to the wrong continent to watch Iceland’s young footballers do their stuff.
The ManU scout got the surprise of his life when he arrived on the steps of Laugardallsvöllur, the national stadium, to see what he thought would be Iceland’s friendly against the Czech Republic in Reykjavík, reported Iceland Review.
According to Metro UK, the scout even successfully applied and received tickets for the match through the Icelandic Football Association (KSI).
However, there was only one slight problem, as he found out at the stadium — the match was not taking place in Iceland.
According to Icelandic website fotbolti.net, the United scout was confused as to why the lights were off and the venue empty. As it turned out, the match was not even being played in the right continent.
Instead, the match was taking place 5,500 miles away in Asia, at the Khalifa Stadium in Doha to be exact.
The Red Devils’ Danish scout knew there was no chance of making it to the Khalifa Stadium on time and he decided to wait it out in the freezing temperatures of Reykjavik, instead of the 30 degree heat in Qatar, according to IB Times.
Meanwhile, Iceland lost the first friendly against the Czech Republic 1-2 and drew the second game against Qatar 1-1.
