MEC carries out surprise inspection of retail outlets, catches 47 violations
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) continues to up the game when it comes to detecting and punishing economic offences.
The MEC carried out surprise inspections at a number of retail outlets across the country in order to ensure the compliance of suppliers (retail outlets) with their obligations on Consumer Protection, reported Gulf Times.
The MEC, while carrying out inspections on 713 retail outlets, detected 47 of them violating the country’s laws, according to Qatar Tribune.
The violations included failure to display prices of products and services and sale of counterfeit and expired products as well as goods missing weight and specification tags.
While as many as 26 retail outlets were fined for failing to display the price of products and services, The Ministry also uncovered 21 of the retailers were booked for the sale of counterfeit and expired products as well as for goods missing weight and specification tags.
The MEC had recently carried out inspection campaigns targeting car repair and fake spare parts shops and penalised many of the erring firms.
