MEC carries out surprise inspections at food shops based in Muaither
Qatar has always been quite strict in setting and implementing rules when it comes to production and distribution of food products.
Officials from the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) recently carried out surprise inspections targeting food shops in the Muaither area to check their compliance with intellectual property rights laws and regulations, reported Gulf Times.
During inspection, a shop was found to be importing and distributing counterfeit canned fruits of various kinds bearing the mark of an original National Product brand. They were slapped with a fine for violating the law, reported Qatar Tribune.
The MEC, in a statement, said that it would not tolerate any violations of intellectual property rights laws and will refer those who violate laws and ministerial decrees to competent authorities, reported The Peninsula.
