MEC shuts down phone shop for two weeks for selling counterfeit batteries
Qatar’s no-nonsense approach to businesses trying to swindle customers is quite famous.
Officials from different government departments make it a point to conduct inspections and surprise raids to ensure businesses are keeping things above board.
Officials from the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) recently served a phone shop located in Al Rayyan Al Jadded with a two-week closure notice after they were caught passing off counterfeit phone batteries as genuine ones, reported Gulf Times.
The counterfeit batteries were displayed and sold as genuine ones belonging to international electronic companies.
The outlet was fined and closed for a two-week period. The shop has also been ordered to publish news regarding the administrative closure in the Ministry’s website as well as two different dailies in the country at their own expense, reported The Peninsula.
