Members of Qatar’s victorious bowling team return home to a warm welcome
Members of the Qatari bowling team, which won the boys’ overall title in the World Youth Bowling Championships held in Detroit, USA, returned home yesterday to a warm welcome.
While Ghanem Abu Jassoum won an individual gold, he helped his teammates — Jassim Mohamed Al Muraikhi, Mohamed Hamad Al Muraikhi and Jassim Ibrahim Al Theyab — to win the team title as well.

The team, coached by Pedro Merani, beat Sweden and Denmark to second and third places respectively, reported Gulf Times.
Officials and players from the Qatar Bowling Federation (QBF), as well as many fans, were at the Hamad International Airport to welcome the young bowlers home.

Aboujassoum said the competition at the championship was fierce, but he managed to come out on top.
“Winning gold wasn’t easy. It was a tough championship, but the hard work we put in over the years really came in handy,” Aboujassoum was quoted as saying by The Peninsula.
Coach Merani, who has been with the team for many years now, was thrilled with the team’s success on the international stage. He credited the QBF’s decade-long youth development programme for the success.
“This programme started 10 years ago. The winning bunch of players have been training for the last seven years. So it was the fruit of seven years of hard work which helped us win the championship,” Merani told The Peninsula.

The team’s bigger aim will undoubtedly be the Asian Games in Djakarta, Indonesia, next month.
“We’ve been preparing for the Asian Games for the last one year and the youth championship served as a good exposure for the boys,” said Merani.
