Ministry issues guidelines for massage parlors for men
Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) today announced an initiative to organize massage services for men.
In a tweet on its official Twitter page, the Ministry said, “The initiative falls within the framework of MoCI's role in supervising, monitoring and regulating commercial activities and taking the necessary measures to protect consumers' rights and to promote a safe business environment.”
MoCI issued the following guidelines for shops that provide massage services for men in Qatar:
- The store must have a glass front. It is prohibited to use tinted glass, curtains or any material that obstruct the view of people inside the store.
- To carry out massage services separately from barber shop services.
- To comply with the scheduled opening and closing hours, between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m.
- To comply with health measures and requirements in terms of cleaning the shop and used tools and equipment, while paying attention to the personal hygiene of employees.
- To ensure employees obtain medical certificates proving that they are free from contagious diseases and are qualified to offer massage services.
- To comply with the precautionary and preventive measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Earlier in August, the Ministry had announced the resumption of indoor swimming pools, spa activities and massage services with reduced capacity from September 15, 2020.
The decision came under Phase 4 of the gradual lifting of COVID-19 restrictions in Qatar and complemented the earlier decisions taken by the country to safeguard the health and safety of citizens and residents and limit the spread of the virus.
