More than 450 Indian migrants dead in Qatar over past 2 years
More than 450 Indian migrants working in Qatar have died in the last two years, The Times of India has reported.
The data is based on information from the Indian embassy, provided in response to a Right to Information request filed by AFP.
The embassy gave figures detailing the number of deaths in 2012 and the first 11 months of 2013.
On average about 20 migrants died per month, peaking at 27 in August last year.
There were 237 fatalities in 2012 and another 218 in 2013 up to December 5.
The embassy did not give details about the circumstances of the deaths or where they occurred.
It also declined to hand over any correspondence between the embassy and the Indian government regarding the treatment of its nationals.
FIFA executive committee member Theo Zwanziger said last Thursday that the World Cup could help improve the country's "appalling" human rights record by inviting closer scrutiny.
On February 11, the Gulf state issued new guidelines aimed at protecting expatriate workers, suggesting they should be paid properly and promptly and housed adequately.
The embassy in Qatar says that the exact number of Indians in Qatar is unknown, but it was estimated at close to 500,000 at the end of 2012, about 26 percent of Qatar's total population.

May be Qatar is not a place for Hygiene or Safety for labors..
one can just not expect a hill-bred nepalese or an indian coming from the mountain ranges to acclimatize to conditions on the other end of extremes, overnight!
450 death of Indian migrant a year here in qatar is normal..no wonder because they already outnumbered locals population.
it is nature, nothing wrong there, by the way most of indian working inside not in hot sun .....!!!!
many of them are very old.... !!!
They are more than 800,000 , compare it to Locals ( Qatari ) , so it is nature
Nothing Wrong

for people who work in this hot sunny times it correct I dont need to say anything because eveybody knows their situation and its really sad but the ones who work in cold like in malls and shops and complain about things its mostly their own fault, most of them used to work as a farmer back in their own country waking up anytime they wanted to and didnt have a big responsibility, remember not even a rial will be given to you for free so if the job pays more than what you had back in your country its definitely a harder job and you have to be responsible for your choice and take it serious, plz if you know anyone moving here tell him/her these things first.
