More teachers to be recruited from Arab countries
The Supreme Education Council (SEC) plans to recruit more teachers from Arab countries for Independent schools for the academic year 2016-2017.
Teachers will be brought in from Jordan, Sudan, Egypt, Morocco, Palestine and other Arab courtiers. It is expected that the tests and interviews will be held in March and April, Al Sharq reports.
A bachelor’s degree in the subject concerned and a minimum three years teaching experience are required for candidates, the SEC said.
The age of candidates should not be more than 45. Those who have stopped teaching for the past three years will not be considered.
Priority will be given to those holding a bachelor’s degree in education and those with postgraduate degrees. The SEC will supervise the interviews, with no agents. Candidates are not required to pay any application fees. Details can be had from the SEC website. [The Peninsula]
The Supreme Education Council's is on target into hiring qualified teacher from neighboring Arab countries. As long as these teachers perform their duties in a highly professional manner and the students are learning at a competitive level, then its a win-win situation for Qatar's Children and the Arab teachers. We shouldn't undermine the SEC, instead encourage them with constructive concepts.
acchabaccha: It is a moot discussion. i also know of a few cases in Saudi where Arab teachers pandered to the parents by marking the students higher and even helping them do their homework..
You can go on your with your statistics and depend on it to give you are answers you desire. I trust on what I see in real life. I gave just one simple example of a vivid case at QL. There are so many of them in my storehouse.
I think Mary Catherine summed it up best. I do however believe that education has moved on and new teaching methods need to embraced. Do Arab teachers hav these skills - I don't know
There are many qualified teachers from Arab countries with both Western and Middle Eastern educational background. Lets give them an opportunity to succeed before we count them out. As long as they have the passion to teach our young minds with the right tools, give them the chance similar to what we give others. Optimism is a force multiplier!
How many "first-hand experiences" do you have? 2,000? That's the minimum sample size you need to make a statistically valid statement. Otherwise you can only call it a case-study and it's far from being valid in general.
zackm: Are you saying that teachers from "western worlds" are good? Are "western teachers" the only people qualified enough to impart quality education. I have come across so many of them from that part of the world who do not know how to write or speak correctly even their own native language let alone teach. Several months back there was a post at QL from a "teacher" from the UK who had posted a query as he had found a job at a leading academy here in Doha. ALL the four line of his post including the subject line had grammatical mistakes. This was from a "native English speaker! When I pointed this out, he deleted the post and sent me an abusive message in my PM. There are many teachers from the east who are better qualified to teach than those from the west and I am stating this from first- hand experience.
Education is a triangle, qualified and experienced teachers, and oversight body that plans carefully and implements good practice and control over the longterm, and parents who support and actively participate in the process by working with teachers and administrators and ensuring their children are disciplined and respectful. Unfortunately there is a vocal minority of parents who seem to be more interested in things like "convenient" vacations or lowering of educational standards so their little darlings don't have to meet requirements that will allow them to function at a reasonable level at graduation
Great news! Thank you Supreme Education Council.
They should try to get more teachers from western worlds. Most people want to send their children to western world for better education or be taught by a western teacher. Why not start early? Who wants to send their kids to Arab schools. I don't see parents jumping the line to send them to Arab schools.
Teaching is not just about degrees. it's about being familiar with the latest teaching methods and training.
