Mowasalat launch double-bus that can fit more people

By QatarNews

In a first in Qatar, Mowasalat has launched double-buses (articulated bus) for public transport with a capacity of more than 60 passengers.

It is a single-deck bus comprising two rigid sections linked by a pivoting joint (articulation) enclosed by protective folding bellows and a cover plate on the inside of the vehicle.

The bus, equipped with an advanced monitoring system, has larger passenger capacity, more and larger doors allowing simultaneous boarding and disembarkation.

The bus will operate on routes with a higher number of passengers, covering some busy residential and commercial areas in the city, Al Sharq reports. [The Peninsula]

There is just one of this type of bus that I have seen at the bus station. I believe this bus will not be successful as most Karwa buses travel through narrow streets and thus cover larger areas of the city which is convenient for bus users. It could only be used on routes where the roads are wide. Yes, it would no doubt be able to carry larger number of passengers and would be very useful on certain routes during Fridays which see a heavy rush at the bus station.

Sanjay: Does a double decker driver get more salary :0)

Unless there are good trained drivers who observe the traffic rules properly, this will definitely be a cause of many accidents. There are currently many Mowasalat bus drivers flouting many traffic rules.

A double decker would've been more practical i feel...but if tractor trailers can drive in the city, this will fit too...the skill level of the bus drivers (presumably recruited just like the taxi drivers) is another matter though; those old timer pakistani truck drivers are just awesome to watch, they do things with their trucks that people can't manage with cars..

I felt karwa buses are less convenient mainly because of their lack of punctuality and then irregular frequency. If buses are more punctual and frequent, they can get more customers. Now many people don't have faith in Karwa transport.

Iam afraid, not practical in Doha.

They should've instead added buses.

^^^it means the route 11 & 12/bus 11 & 12 which are passing at the streets of souq haraj, Mansoura, najma and matar qadem. cant imagine how it will negotiate on those narrow streets. ;)

I doubt Qatar Bus drivers will handle this perfectly, after seen several accident recently with normal bus. I've use this kind of Bus in UK, the turnings are very sharp, drivers are well trained, No panics.. He knows where he turns...

All I can see is this bus causing more traffic. Roundabouts is not an issue with this type of vehicle, the problem is turning a tight right or left turn since this bus would require a bigger turning radius.

lcapall: They are nicknamed "bendy" buses and used in many countries. They can negotiate roundabouts, but i doubt whether they'll be put on such a route in Qatar
