The owner of an illegal, Mumbai-based recruitment firm has been booked for allegedly cheating a Qatari citizen, according to a report in Indian newspaper Hindustan Times.

The accused, under the pretext of recruiting a female cook for the Qatar national, accepted money from him but never sent the cook to Qatar.

The Qatar national, identified as Khalid Abdulla MSL Jaber, had approached authorities at the Indian embassy in Qatar, according to Qatar Tribune.

Acting upon the Indian embassy’s complaint, Mumbai police booked the Dongri-based agency owner, who did not have mandatory licence from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for running an overseas recruitment agency.
According to Mumbai police, the Qatari citizen contacted the Dongri-based agency Salman Sayyaed Muhad Import Export and Consultant while looking for an Indian female cook.
The agency informed Jaber that they had selected one Salma Beghum for the job on a monthly salary of QR1,000. The company also signed an agreement with Salma Beghum and sent its copy to Jaber.

After this, Jaber sent Beghum’s visa, her airline ticket and QR3,000 as consultancy fee to the agency. However, neither Beghum nor any other person was sent to Jaber’s place. That was when the Qatari national understood that he had been cheated.

The Mumbai Police have registered a complaint against the agency’s co-owners Ansari Hussain and Fayyaz Shaikh.
