News about crane accident that killed 150 workers in Doha is a total fake

If you are active on social media, then chances are you may have come across pictures and videos showing a collapsed crane and several injured people. Like this one.

The accompanying text with it would have said that 150 people had died in the ‘accident.’ However, as QL user Aubrey pointed out, this is a complete fake.

The pictures and videos being circulated are that of an accident which took place in the Sindusar Khurd mine, in Railmagra tehsil in Rajsamand, India. Four labourers died in the accident. Here is a video of the news item that was posted on February 1, 2017.

The creators of the fake news clearly intend to cause fear in the minds of people and this is simply not done.

The Qatar government has also issued strict warnings against creating and spreading fake news.

So before you share such news items, be doubly sure about its authenticity or you could be penalised for it.
