Ooredoo warns users to be careful about ‘calling scams’ via mobile phone apps
If you receive phone calls via social media apps under the user ID ‘Ooredoo,’ then disconnect it immediately as it is sure to be a scam artist looking to cheat you out of your hard-earned cash.
The Qatari telecom company has warned customers to be vigilant and not trust any calls via social media or communication apps that appear to come from Ooredoo, reported Gulf Times.
This is because fraudsters will be able to mask and change their caller ID or display names to ‘Ooredoo’ using popular communication apps, the newspaper reported.
Such fraudsters could ring up customers and cheat them out of their credit card and account details or top up credit details in order to release a fake ‘prize,’ reported Qatar Tribune.
The communications behemoth reiterated that Ooredoo representatives will ring customers only via the official account number 4420 0000.
All calls registered under the caller ID name ‘Ooredoo’ via apps are considered fake.
Customers can report such scam calls to Ooredoo via the 111 call centre.
Ooredoo reiterated that they were working with local tech companies and overseas operators to ensure its customers avoid being victimised by ongoing scams.
