Officials in a number of commercial centres and malls have confirmed that the price of local and imported milk has recently increased by 28% and 5% for milk derivatives, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported.

A citizen mentioned that this increase in the milk prices will adversely affect families’ budgets.

He called for fixing a ceiling for the prices of consumer goods and controlling the prices.

Another citizen said there is no justification for such increase at this time considering that most of the prices of the international goods are still stable. He called on the consumers to boycott the products which have seen a price increase without justification.

Some say it is because the Saudi government subsidises the milk prices

It is not permissible to hike the price with the old packing and specifications.. So the companies launching new designed packages with new descriptions to increase the price..!!

Old packaged milks are still at low cost and now the new designed packs are changing the value...

Well, not just milk but prices of all goods are expensive in Qatar Vs UAE (Dubai) & Saudi. Be it vegetables, grocery or clothes as the competition is not as intense amongst trade like other countries in the region. This makes certain businesses charge higher margin at the cost of consumers !!! The answer for lower prices or at parity within the region is increased free market policies and obviously consumer protection forums can play a very crucial role. Prices are higher in spite of Govt trying to keep inflation at Bay through low fuel prices & low LPG prices Vs UAE so its trade which is laughing all the way !!!
