Prices drop for Qatar's favorite Hamour fish
Residents in Qatar should rejoice now that prices of Hamour, a kind of fish that is very popular, has become cheaper by 15 riyals per kg at the central market since January.
Hamour fish was being sold for QR45 a kg in mid-January, while yesterday its price at the central market was down to QR30.
Price lists of fresh vegetables, fruits and fish at the central markets released by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce for the past month until yesterday show that there have been no major fluctuations.
On the contrary, some fish varieties like Shery have become cheaper since mid-January. Safi fish has become slightly expensive. It was being sold for QR25 a kg last month but yesterday it was available for QR30 a kg.
Shery, on the other hand, has become a little cheaper. From QR13 a kg last month it was available at the central market for QR10 a kg yesterday. The rates of Jash fish remain stable at QR20 per kg.
Fruits, all of which are imported, are in ample supply as always, and their prices have declined slightly. Only the Philippine banana has become marginally expensive since last month, from QR5 a kg to QR5.5.
American and Chinese apples, African oranges and the Egyptian lime have all become slightly cheaper, according to price tables released by the ministry.
As regards fresh vegetables, the prices of Jordanian tomato, Qatari cucumber and Saudi carrots have declined slightly.

People say that the Qatari cucumber is abnormally short and shriveled.
Perhaps that explains the price drop.
