Qatar announces entry and exit procedures at Abu Samra border with Saudi
In a historic decision toward Gulf reconciliation, the airspace, land, and sea borders between Qatar and Saudi Arabia were opened earlier this week.
Qatar’s Government Communications Office (GCO) said that a series of precautionary measures will apply to all arrivals at the Abu Samra border crossing.
These are in line with Qatar’s current COVID-19 travel and return policies, the GCO said.

As of today, January 9, 2021, the following procedures will take effect:
- All arrivals to Qatar from the Abu Samra border crossing are required to take a COVID-19 test and get a virus-free certificate no more than 72 hours before travel.
- All arrivals will have to quarantine at a hotel for one week. The hotel accommodation should be booked via ‘Discover Qatar’ before arrival.
- All those who travel from Qatar via the Abu Samra border crossing, must reserve for hotel quarantine for the date of return before leaving the country.
- All arrivals must sign a formal pledge to comply with hotel quarantine as well as adhere to the quarantine policies and conditions. The arrivals must download the Ehteraz app (for COVID-19 infection tracing).
These measures are subject to change based on COVID-19 public health indicators in Qatar and around the world, the GCO underlined.
