Qatar beat South Korea 1-0 to qualify for AFC Asian Cup semifinal for the first time

It was a sensational evening for Qatari football as the young team made history in the UAE by qualifying for the AFC Asian Cup for the first time.

The Qatar team, in outstanding form, kept a clean sheet for the fifth game in a row to beat South Korea 1-0 in a thrilling tie. Abdulaziz Hatem scored the game’s only goal in the 78th minute.

Qatar, who have competed at the Asian Championships on nine occasions, had reached the quarterfinals stage thrice — 2000, 2011 and ’19.

Qatar will face winners of the other quarterfinal — Australia or the UAE — in the last four clash on Monday.
