The first of its kind in the country, a new leadership program is launched by a Qatar Foundation member and the youth-led environmental association titled, ‘The Environmental Ambassadors of Qatar.’

The program is open to Qatari nationals and residents from age 18-35 years old.

Participants should be passionate about sustainability and demonstrate enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

Under the program, 15-20 selected individuals will take part in a year-long training delivered by Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) and the Arab Youth Climate Movement Qatar (AYCM).

The selected participants will be expected to commit at least 10-15 hours a month to the program.

“Over the last few months, the sustainability movement has accelerated,” said Shireen Obeidat, Events and Marketing Specialist, QGBC. “So now is an excellent time to support and develop leaders who will help promote sustainability and take environmental action.

Throughout the 12-month program, topics such as climate change, air pollution, plastic pollution, terrestrial biodiversity, marine biodiversity, food chains, sustainability in nature and human communities, and environmental conservation will be covered.

Workshops and training sessions will be held to learn how to communicate through social media, interviews, lectures, blogs, and become effective leaders.

Once the campaign is complete, the eco ambassadors will begin creating and widening their own networks, with the support of QBGC and AYCM, to help raise awareness, reach wider audiences, and spark environmental change.

The mission of this initiative is to help create long-lasting sustainable change within the communities and beyond.

The deadline to apply is July 4, with the initiative set to start in August 2020.

Great news. We need to invest in the future. New leadership must come from the Youth. The older generation can not be trusted with the environment.
