Qatar reiterates firm support for Palestinians
The Speaker of the Advisory Council, Mohamed bin Mubarak Al Khulaifi, yesterday reiterated that Qatar’s stance on backing and assisting the Palestinian people is fundamental.
He also highlighted the firm stance of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on supporting and advocating the Palestinian cause at international forums.
Addressing an Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) meeting in Tehran, Al Khulaifi lauded tireless efforts led by the Emir since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip to stop shedding the Palestinians’ blood.
He said Qatar, through the Foreign Minister H E Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah, had said it did not launch any initiative to end the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, but had conveyed the terms suggested by the Palestinian side, which Qatar believed to be fair.
Al Khulaifi hailed the Palestinian people’s historic steadfastness in the face of unjustified Israeli aggression.
He called on the international community to assume its responsibility and ensure peace and security, pressure Israel to stop its aggression and end the unjust siege of Gaza in addition to opening the crossings for the Gazans who have been suffering for over seven years in the absence of basic necessities.
He also called for releasing all Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, including the chairman and members of Palestinian Legislative Council.
“As parliamentarians, we should discuss the most effective means to support and advocate for our brothers in Palestine to secure their legitimate rights and establish their independent state on their national soil, with its capital in East Jerusalem,” Al Khulaifi said, stressing the importance of Palestinian national reconciliation.
He affirmed that the Palestinian cause is and will remain the basic and central cause for all Arab and Islamic countries.
“It is deplorable and hurtful to see that our Palestinian brethren are facing killings, assassinations, destruction and displacement for over six decades due to the aggressive practices of Israel and use of internationally banned lethal weapons, not to mention settlement activities, the Judaisation of Jerusalem and digging tunnels under Al Aqsa Mosque.”
He said Israel has been using weak excuses to launch brutal aggressions on the Palestinian people, killing hundreds and destroying infrastructures.
The United Nations’ resolutions are only ink on papers for Israel, he said, adding the sword of international legitimacy is drawn if these resolution were against an Islamic country.
He hoped that the conference would achieve its objectives and take effective decisions on the current situation to meet the aspirations of the Islamic peoples.
Al Khulaifi thanked the Iranian president and people for hosting the important conference and Iranian Advisory Council Speaker, Ali Larijani, and members for the hospitality and organisation of the meeting.
