Qatar’s Abdalelah Haroun wins 400M bronze medal at IAAF World Championships
Qatar’s Abdalelah Haroun did the country proud by winning a bronze medal in men’s 400M race at the IAAF World Championships in London yesterday evening.
The 20-year-old lived up to his reputation as a promising star for the future by finishing third in 44.48sec, behind South Africa’s Wayde van Niekerk (43.98) and Bahamas’s Steve Gardiner (44.41), reported Gulf Times.
“It was a great race with so many stars but I was confident of success. To win a medal at the World Championships for Qatar is a dream come true,” he said.
“The first thing I wanted to do was reach the final but I’ve had to fight for a medal. I knew it was a big chance for me so, I’m very happy to have taken the opportunity. It’s a very special moment for my country and an honour to take the bronze medal with me,” Haroun, the first Asian world 400M medallist, was quoted as saying to the IAAF Website.
Two years ago, Haroun had won gold at the Asian Championships in Wuhan, China, and a silver at the World Indoor Championships in Portland, USA.
He is phenomenal.
