Qatar’s population reaches an all-time high of 2.67m people
Have you had a feeling that of late, Qatar was getting more crowded than usual? If the answer is yes, then you couldn’t have been more right.
February 2017 has seen Qatar’s population at its highest ever — 2.67m people, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS).
Of the 2,673,022 people in Qatar in February, 2,018,190 are men and 654,832 are women.
Qatar’s population climbed 3.8% compared to the previous month. There was also a 5% increase in the number of people when compared to February 2016, reported Gulf Times.
The previous highest population ever — 2,637,000 — had been recorded on November 30.
Every year, there is usually a fall in Qatar’s population towards the end of December as several expatriates go home for Christmas vacations. Though a marginal rise in population in January is generally observed, the big spike usually comes in February.
Latest figures show there was an increase of around 97,000 residents between January 31 and February 28. It means this is the first time in six months that there was such a massive growth in population in less than 30 days.
Qatar’s population is expected to increase until at least May.
