Qatar’s winter vegetable markets are set to open their gates on Thursday
The popularity of Qatar’s winter vegetable markets has surged to unprecedented levels since its opening in the 2012-13 season.
This year’s winter market is set to go live on Thursday, with a total of 80 farms based in the country set to sell their produce directly to consumers, reported The Peninsula.
Because there are no middlemen in these transactions, both producers and consumers will get a good deal at winter markets.
The Ministry of Municipality and Environment said they would open three new winter markets — at Al Ruwais, Al Shahaniya and Al Sailiya — to cater to the large number of customers expected this season. The ministry will soon start construction of shaded structures at these three locations.
The existing winter markets, run by the Agricultural Affairs Department at the Ministry, are located at Al Mazrouah (Near Umm Salal), Al Khor-Dhakhira and Al Wakrah.
Customers are assured of getting fresh agricultural produce, directly from the farmers, at very reasonable prices.
The winter markets will operate on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 7am until 5pm. The livestock field and animal feed stores will continue to operate throughout the week during the same times.
The markets will also offer livestock and fodders from 7am to 5pm.
Many other local products like honey, dairy products, eggs and fish will also be available.
