Qatar strengthening its sports facilities
Qatar has been witnessing increased sports facilities as the government strengthens its vital infrastructure to host the 2022 World Cup, according to official figures.
The country now has 320 facilities, which includes 105 pitches, 34 gymnasiums, 20 tennis courts, 27 squash courts, 22 swimming pools, 14 basketball courts, 13 volleyball courts, 12 handball courts, 12 stadiums, 12 athletics tracks and 11 shooting galleries, the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics said.
The total number of administrators accredited by sport federations is 318 (62% Qataris) while the number of coaches and assistant coaches is 1,148 (45% Qataris).
The number of players registered in various Qatari federations reached 21,343 (including 91% males), while the number of players with special needs registered at Qatar Federation for Special Needs Sports reached 105 players (32% females).
The data included in sports statistics show that 924 tournaments were held in 2013, including indoor and outdoor championships in different types of sports/age groups.
As for the monthly average of physical activities carried out at the neighbourhood football court (Al Furjan), the statistics disclose that 1,269 male and female players were involved in different types of sports in 2013.

I totally agree..Cricket is a major sport these days and having a cricket stadium becomes imminent especially in a country like Qatar that is taking great strides towards achieving sporting excellence.
