Qatari customs officers seize 2.8 tonnes of chewing tobacco hidden in water heaters
Alert customs officers once again foiled an attempt by smugglers to bring in large amount of illegal substances into the country.
Eagle-eyed inspectors from the General Authority of Customs (GAC) seized 2.8 tonnes (2,873kg) of illegal chewing tobacco at the Sea Customs Department of Hamad Port, according to Gulf Times.
The illegal chewing tobacco, usually known by the name ‘tambaku,’ was found hidden inside water heaters that were being shipped into the country, reported The Peninsula.
The seizure was made by customs officers through the introduction of the shipment on the X-ray machine for accurate examination, according to Qatar Tribune.
The Director of the Customs Department Abdul Hadi Al Sahli congratulated the alert officials and thanked them for their efforts and dedication to work.
Earlier this month customs had confiscated 12 tonnes of ‘tambaku’ at the Hamad Port.
accha: yes bro i did think of that possibility; but the article says the heaters were destined into Qatar and not in transit; must be some really organised operation if they're actually unloading in Qatar and then sending it along again to some other place; if only they used their brains and skills towards something good for themselves and the society at large...
mohdata: May be it was for "onward" delivery and Qatar was just a conduit. These criminals have their owns ways of running their "business."
man, who is chewing all this tambaku?! in a city of under 3 million, with most of them not being users, that's a lot of stuff to be bringing in! oh well, what do i know? :-)
Too bad ..... really.
