The 'Qatari Day of Solidarity' is to be organised today by charities and humanitarian associations in Qatar to support the victims of the Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) in the Philippines and the concurrent tropical cyclone that recently hit Puntland, in Somalia.

Qatar Red Crescent Society Chairman Dr Mohammed bin Ghanim al Ali al Maadid was quoted by Qatar Tribune as saying that this series of events would be organised on November 19, 2013.

"Under the guidance of the Emir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, the humanitarian associations agreed to support our leadership's benevolent efforts to alleviate the suffering of those affected.

"Driven by a long history of supporting vulnerable people everywhere regardless of their religion, race, colour, we aim to relieve the victims by raising money and donations in kind.

We also wish to pay tribute to our Filipino and Somali brothers and sisters who continue contributing to our development process and renaissance, he added.

Its nice to know that people can be so generous and get togather for a worthy cause but the authorities in some of this countries where this tragedies occur on a regular basis need to learn from the experiences and get a effective disaster management system in place so such a great loss of life could be avoided or atleast minimized. This countries like the Philippines should learn from other countries in the region where similar disasters also occur and who have got systems in place to manage or atleast to minimize the loss of life when such disasters occur

to omairbenomar: I dont think that religion is the issue here. I believe that those people distributing the relief goods are doing their best to help those in the affected areas. It so happened that until now, there are a number of affected areas without communication lines, roads are not accessible, etc. When we say Filipino people, no matter what religion you are into, surely will get help. Its just a matter of time to serve everyone (we are talking in millions of people). Patience is a vertue.
