Remember the viral ‘Q Gate’ pic? It is a toll facility, but won’t be activated soon

Do you remember a recent picture that went viral on social media which showed a road sign painted with the words ‘Q Gate’ on it?

While the consensus was that it was a toll gate, people could not agree on how soon it would be activated. While some felt it would be activated immediately, others thought that it would be several years before it was launched.

Now, there seems to be some sort of confirmation about the date of its launch.

The mysterious ‘Q Gate’ is indeed a toll gate and it will be activated only within the next two years, after the completion of all ongoing road projects, reported The Peninsula.

Brigadier Mohammed Saad Al Kharji, the Director of Qatar’s General Directorate of Traffic, confirmed the news to Al Sharq newspaper in a recent interview.

Al Kharji pointed out that the Q Gates fall under the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

He categorically said talks about charging a certain amount from drivers through electronic gates on the roads was premature.

“The Q Gates can be made operational only when all parallel roads are ready for use. This new technology can be used on busy roads to ease congestion,” he was quoted as saying by Al Sharq.

“The aim of these gates is to reduce traffic pressure, which will effectively alleviate congestion on roads like 22 February street,” he added.

It is understood that toll will be collected through a rechargeable card displayed on the windscreen of the vehicle. Each time the car passes the gate, the fee will be automatically deducted from the card.

Pio, sorry if you have taken it that way. And if you have read the article, it clearly states that this will only be implemented after all on going road projects have completed. Hence, since I am not as rich as you think I am, I am more than happy to use the roads that are tariff free. Specially if I know for myself that I do not have the money to pay for added value.

Such implementations of toll are not solely for collecting money from road users but also to put order to the system. With these fees, the usage of alternative routes will be maximized and the 'Expressway' will serve its purpose. As for any other services that we want to be provided as express that we pay extra amounts for, roads with the same benefits shouldn't be exemptions. And it is this 'order' that I was trying to point out on my suggestion.

Your suggestion for postpaid can also be considered, but can easily be abused thus, payment system will not serve its purpose properly.

As Molten Metal mentioned, as users, we contribute to the added value happily.

Oi chcunanan

What a stone hearted suggestion:

Coz your concept on Imposing a penalty or fine on somebody who already dont have money ie without available balance is putting salt on wound.

That person already dont have money at that time and you are fining him as well..How can he pay...You mean he should take a bowl and start begging there..to those rich people like you behind in the line who is only concerned that they are getting late...??? How callous to human suffering...

Human values are losing day by day.

When a chip is there it can be postpaid..instant message will be sent to your mobile (owner of car) via metrash and payment need to be done at time of Istemara.

Just a suggestion: Impose a penalty or fine for any vehicle that will try to pass through the toll gates without available balance. As this will most probably cause more congestion raher than to ease them. i.e. Like how it is on parking entrances, etc.

Let people travel freely...let people use any road they want...if you want to collect money..increase istemara fees...simple that..
